To use the water, I added a valve that connects to the bottom of the barrels:
The valve has threads that accept the 1/2 threaded coupling described earlier (use 2 of them with teflon):
From the valve, you can connect a short piece of irrigation pipe to water your garden. Or, there is a coupling that connects to the irrigation pipe and lets you screw on a regular hose. A regular hose is more flexible than the irrigation pipe and doesn't get kinks.
